Taytay was the capital of Palawan Island before Puerto Princesa. This is not a touristic destination if you compare to El Nido and tha’s exaclty what we were looking for at this time.
Talaytayan is as native word from a wooden structure that serves as a bridge connecting two separate points. When spanish came into the island, they asked people of the name of the place and a local told them Talaytayan. Because the spanish wasn’t able to remember and pronounce properly the name, they used to call it Taytay which became the official name of the municipality.
The most popular (and one of the one thing to visit in the city center) is the Fort Santa Isabel. It was built from 1667 to 1738. It’s the only heritage from occupation period and Taytayanos are really proud of it. The whole structure was design and built on top of an offshore and massive rock formation. The Spanish authorities forced hundreds locals to gather, carve and lay massive coral blocks to built the fort.

The Fort Santa Isabel is one of the beauty of the city for sure, but one one the most beautiful attraction in Taytay is the Danao Lake. The officila name of the Lake is Manguao lake but local people call it Danao. It's a half day trip were you will enjoy nature, kayaking on the lake and seeing birds if you are lucky.

The best way to organize the tour is to ask your accommodation establishment or the tourism office located in the Fort Santa Isabel.
Taytay is a nice place to snorkeling and go for an island tour. It is less know than El Nido and we book a boat only for us.
