Paksé is the capital of Champassak province. This is an ideal starting point to visit the bolaven plateau and the Wat Phu.

The Vat Phu is located approximately one hour from the city of Paksé. Vat Phu complex was built beetwen the mekong river and a mountain. It will cost you 50 000 KIP for a ticket to the full site who included the museum and the ruines. It's a ruined Khmer and hindu temple complex and Vat Phu is traslated as "mountain temple".

After a more or less painful climb, actually it depend how much you feel comfortable with flip-flop, you will enjoy a wonderful panorama. The point of view is amazing.

At the top of the mount you will find the old sanctuary. It was a Khmer sanctuary who was turned into a Buddhist temple much later and contain statues of Buddha.

Behind the sanctuary you may help me to find the Buddha footprint. I am still wondering where it is.
At the north of the sanctuary, in a chaos of rocks you can see carved blocks. An elephant, a crocodile and a staircase framed with snakes.

I was staying at Sabaidy 2 Guesthouse which provide good rooms for cheapeast price in town (70 000 KIP).
You definitely have to go for a drink or a dinner to the Paksé hotel rooftop and enjoying the sunset. This is a beautiful point of view on the city. Paksé is a welcoming town, I had a really good feeling in.
From Paksé you can join the 4000 island by bus. The ticket cost 65 000 KIP and this is where I will continue my trip.
