One day in Vang Vieng

Vang Vieng, the very touristic city who lies on the Nam Song River. Deep in the laos jungle, the town is worlwilde famous for the party and a paradise for backpakers who are looking for non stop party with no rules. I was kind of wondering about the spirit of the city before spending a night an a day in. I was expecting to meet so many drunk people even if the climate change few years ago.

Vang Vieng was paradise in 1990's for drugs, lady boys, alcool and cheaps drinks. In 2012, with an average of 24 deaths per years (foreigner who went swiming and jumping drunk in Nam Song River) authorites decided to shut down totally tubing and parties rivers. When the parties and the drugs went, the backpakers went too.

With a 2am curfew in the city (midnight in all Laos country) the parties are not longer in the city center of Vang Vieng. You will go to the famous Sakura Bar and from then, around midnight you will take a tuk tuk to spend all night to the jungle : a night club located outside of the city.

Yes you can go in Vang Vieng for party and spend the night drinking and enjoying electronic music.

I was really happy for what I see. The party was great and people around too. Most of them were respectfull and polite.

But there is an atmosphere I didn't really like. I felt that ther is still a lot of backpakers here wanted to come in Vang Vieng for the no limits parties and drugs free. Even if the drugs is now sold only in sepcialize bars were you must to use inside. Indeed be carreful if you want to keep some to bring in your guesthouse or outside, some barman calls the authorities and get rewarding for that.

Well, if you still want to come in Laos to party all night, Vang Vieng is for sure still the place to be. You will meet backpakers, drunk people and a lot of bars were you can buy cheap drugs.

But there is not the most beautiful to see in Vang Vieng fo sure. Surrounded by the mountains, landscapes, lagoons and caves around are beautiful. Laotian people are helpfull and peaceful. If you spend time in Vang Vieng run away from the city to lose yourself in the wild.
